Integrated model of circular economy, public management and environmental efficiency of mariculture in Hinatuan
Project overview
The project contributes to the development of sustainable economic opportunities based on economy for 1,100 vulnerable farming families, climate change adaptation and conservation of marine resources in the Municipality of Hinatuan -Surigao del Sur, Caraga, Philippines. The specific objective is to promote sustainable socioeconomic development and environmental protection in the Municipality of Hinatuan, through an integrated model of circular economy, public management and environmental efficiency of mariculture, through institutional and community strengthening in environmental conservation, productive and entrepreneurial strengthening for women in new business lines of circular economy -biofertilizer and biostimulant from algae and their waste-, and the application of these bio-inputs in local agriculture to improve crop productivity, soil conservation and environmental footprint.
OBJECTIVES
General Objective: Economic and environmental rights of vulnerable families in Surigao del Sur.
Specific Objective: Sustainable socio-economic development and environmental protection in the Municipality of Hinatuan.
OUTPUTS
1. Public policies for the conservation of the marine ecosystem in Hinatuan are promoted.
2. Improved environmental efficiency in the seaweed value chain with 600 seaweeds producing families.
3. Strengthening of 35 women's enterprises for the recovery and transformation of seaweed waste into bioinputs.
4. Promoted the use of bio-inputs, the recovery of soils and climate resilience.
COUNTERPART
In the Philippines,WWF-Philippines and CODESPA have been working together in the country since 2023.The most recent collaboration involved the formulation of the project proposal under the Blue Action Fund focused on the management and conservation of the marine ecosystem of Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park Protected Area, Cagayancillo, Palawan.
