Empoderamiento de mujeres, jóvenes e indígenas
Enhancing indigenous women’s (IW) leadership roles and political participation in the indigenous and government structures in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao
Enhancing indigenous women’s (IW) leadership roles and political participation in the indigenous and government structures in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao
Project overview
There are still very few IW leaders who had access to decision making spaces in the Philippines. This is a gap that must be solved: opening spaces for more women to participate but also equipping more IW to take those spaces. This project would like to address these gaps and offer a program that can build their capacity and at the same time support interventions that can provide an opening from LGUs and IP political leaders to IW as part of the decision making. Capacitating indigenous women in feminist transformative leadership and good governance can empower them to better assert their rights in the decision-making spaces and processes across indigenous political structures and local governments. The project will entail working hand in hand with the council of elders, tribal leaders, LGU officials to ensure that the indigenous women are consulted and heard, that democratic and participatory spaces are strengthen so that policy and other interventions addresses their needs, interests and priorities, and that they are able to participate in making of decisions that affect their lives.
